Topeka’s Kyla Jade on “The Voice”

2002 Shawnee Heights graduate Kyla Jade Harris is a contestant on The Voice, which aired February 26 on NBC.

Kyla Jade is a dynamic songstress with bluesy undertones, a versatile soloist and communicates her love for God in unique expressions of Gospel music. After high school, Kyla Jade moved to Nashville where she currently resides and is the Minister of Music at Cathedral of Praise COGIC. You can see her every Sunday morning on B.E.T. with Dr. Bobby Jones and the Nashville Super Choir. Additionally, for the past three years she has been a background vocalist for Jennifer Hudson.

Her professional experiences also including singing background for artists such as Kim Burrell, Aretha Franklin, Beverly Crawford, Patti LaBelle, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Vashawn Mitchell, Ricky Dillard and the list goes on and on.

If you are philanthropic, you may have had the pleasure of hearing Kyla Jade perform at the 5th Annual Women Empowerment Blues 4 A Cause concert, July 2015. (Just a reminder that Topeka fosters and welcomes great musical talent – be sure to get out and listen to new things, you never know.)

Kyla Jade secured a spot on Team Blake by singing “See Saw.”

“Kyla’s voice was born in church and developed its power through performing in gospel choirs. After college, Kyla got her first big break when she joined Bobby Jones’ International Super Choir, the longest running gospel show on BET. After nine years of traveling with the show, Kyla took some time off to care for family. Kyla feared it would be difficult to get back in the music scene until a friend asked her to audition as a background vocalist for Jennifer Hudson. Today, Hudson supports Kyla, pushes her and has been a huge motivator for Kyla to come audition for “The Voice.”  Lisa Bustamante, MPRM Communications
