Preludes & Postludes with Organist Sylvia Hamilton performing Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 1 and more

Cathedral organist, Dr. Sylvia Hamilton, performs an all-Mendelssohn mini-concert on Grace Cathedral’s 65-rank, 4-manual pipe organ. Works to be performed are:

“Praeludium II in G Major”, Op. 37
Andante con moto

“Sonata I”, Op. 65 (4 movements)
Allegro moderato e serioso
Andante Recitative
Allegro assai vivace

Dr. Hamilton is Assistant Organist at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, Topeka, Kansas having served on the staff since 2004. Prior to her position at Grace Cathedral, Dr. Hamilton led the music program at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Topeka, as Music Director/Organist. She has also served churches throughout the Greater Boston area including parishes in Concord and Natick, Massachusetts.

Dr. Hamilton holds a masters degree in organ from New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, and a doctoral degree in organ from the University of Kansas as well as an undergraduate degree from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. Her major teachers include James Higdon, Yuko Hayashi, and Tom Robin Harris.
